3D Product Visualization
3D product visualization means rebuilding your product as an accurate digital asset, then lighting and rendering it to produce images and film without a photo shoot. From one build you get campaign key visuals, e-commerce imagery, colourway and variant sets, packshots and animation, all in the same materials and light. I work from CAD where it exists and from photos, drawings and dimensions where it does not. The focus is product and advertising work, not architecture or interiors.

What is 3D product visualization?
It is product photography without a camera, a studio or a physical product. Your product is rebuilt as an accurate digital model, given materials that behave like the real ones, lit in a virtual studio or environment, and rendered into images. The output is a file that looks photographed, and nothing in it was.
The reason brands move to it is not that it looks better than photography. Good photography looks excellent. The reason is that the asset persists. Once the product exists digitally, a new angle is a camera move, a new colourway is a material swap, a new background is a scene change and a new format is a reframe. A photo shoot delivers the frames you booked. A 3D build delivers the frames you booked and the ones you have not thought of yet.

The list matters at brief stage, not at delivery. Which images you need decides how the scene is built, how the product is modelled and how heavy the materials can be. Naming all of them up front costs one paragraph and saves a rebuild.
Is 3D product visualization better than a photo shoot?
It depends on whether the product exists and how many versions you need.

The crossover comes earlier than most people expect. It is rarely the second image that tips it, it is the third colourway or the fourth format of the first image. The decision is compared at length in CGI vs live action product commercials, and the underlying cost logic in 2D vs 3D animation.
Which products is this actually right for?
The work suits products where material, construction or precision carry the message, and products that ship in variants.
- Footwear and apparel, where material behaviour is the product. The adidas ZK 2K Boost films were built on physics driven motion rather than a shoot, and PUMA Be The Spark is the same field.
- Consumer electronics, where surfaces, glass and precise geometry punish anything approximate. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 work is product CGI composited into filmed environments, which is the hybrid case.
- Materials and technical products, where what matters is invisible in a photograph. BASF Design Fabrics is exactly that: simulating how materials behave rather than shooting what they look like.
- Packaging, cosmetics and beverages, where liquid, glass, foil and print finishes are the hard part and the variant count is high.
- Products still in development, where launch assets have to be ready before manufacturing is.
What is not in scope?
Architecture. No interiors, no exteriors, no floorplans, no real estate imagery. Those searches share vocabulary with this one and almost none of the craft: archviz is its own discipline with its own specialists, and you will get better work from someone who does it every day.
The line is the subject, not the setting. A product staged inside an environment for a campaign is product work and is in scope. A building or a room where the space itself is the subject is not.
What do you need from me to start?

Artwork at web resolution is the most common gap, and it shows immediately on a close-up. Print files are worth chasing before production starts.
What drives the cost of 3D product rendering?
Not the number of images on its own, which is the assumption most briefs start from. A second image from an existing scene costs a fraction of the first one.
What moves the number:
- Whether usable CAD exists. Modelling from photographs is real work and it needs its own approval round.
- Material difficulty. Glass, liquid, fabric, fur, brushed metal and anything translucent are the expensive ones, because light behaves in ways that need more computation and more iteration.
- How photoreal it has to be. Realism is a target, not a quality level. The gap between convincing and forensically accurate is often the largest single cost in a project.
- Set and environment. A product on a clean background is one scope. A product in a built environment with props and context is another.
- Variant count, and when it is decided. Variants planned from the start are cheap. Variants added after the scene is finalised are not always.
- Approval layers. The number of people between the first note and the final yes changes a schedule more than the creative brief does.

How does a product visualization project run?
Brief and data, then modelling or CAD cleanup, then look development on still frames, then angles and layout approved as low resolution previews, then final rendering, then compositing and delivery.
The stage that decides the result is look development, and it is the one most briefs rush. Materials and lighting are judged on a few still frames before anything is rendered at full resolution, because that is where photorealism is won and where changes still cost creative hours rather than a full re-render of an image set.
Feedback runs as two structured rounds, one at look development and angle approval, one on the final images. I will tell you upfront which changes are cheap, a colour, a material, a camera angle, and which reopen the build, a geometry change after everything downstream is set.

Houdini for modelling, simulation and procedural setups, Redshift for rendering, Nuke and After Effects for compositing and retouch. Procedural build matters more here than it sounds: when a product spec changes mid project, a changed input recomputes rather than forcing a rebuild, which is the difference between an annoying afternoon and a new quote.

What is 3D product visualization?
3D product visualization is the process of rebuilding a product as an accurate 3D model, giving it correct materials and lighting, and rendering images of it. The result looks photographed but nothing was photographed, so angles, colourways, backgrounds and formats can be changed without a new shoot.
What is the difference between product visualization and product rendering?
They describe the same work from different ends. Visualization is the whole discipline of showing a product digitally. Rendering is the specific step where the software calculates the final image. Agencies use rendering for the output and visualization for the service.
Is 3D product visualization better than product photography?
It is better when the product does not exist yet, when you need many variants, when the shot is impossible to stage, or when the imagery has to be reused and updated. Photography is better when the product is already manufactured, one or two images are enough, and nothing about it will change.
Do you need CAD data?
CAD is the fastest and most accurate route, because the geometry is already correct. STEP, OBJ and FBX all work. Without CAD the product is modelled from photos, technical drawings and dimensions, which adds modelling time and one extra approval round on the model before look development starts.
Can you visualize a product that does not exist yet?
Yes, and it is one of the main reasons brands commission this. With CAD, a design file or reliable reference, imagery can be produced long before the first physical sample, so campaign and launch assets are ready when the product is.
Can I get stills and animation from the same project?
Yes, and it is the strongest argument for doing it in 3D. The same build produces key visuals, e-commerce stills, 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1 video and high resolution print frames. The animation side is covered on the product animation page.
How accurate will the materials look compared to the real product?
That depends on what you can supply. Physical samples, material specifications or a reference photo under known lighting get very close. Without reference, materials are art directed to look correct rather than measured, which is fine for campaign imagery and not ideal for colour critical work.
Do you do architectural or interior visualization?
No. The focus is product, brand and advertising work. For floorplans, interiors, exteriors and real estate imagery you want an archviz specialist, and there are good ones. Products placed inside a set or environment for a campaign are a different thing and are in scope.
What formats do I get?
Whatever the channels need. High resolution stills for print and out of home, web and e-commerce sizes, transparent background packshots, 360 degree turntable sets, and video masters plus vertical and square reformats when animation is in scope.
What drives the cost of product visualization?
Product complexity, material difficulty such as glass, liquid, fabric or brushed metal, whether usable CAD exists, how many unique angles and variants you need, how photoreal the result has to be, whether there is an environment or set, and how many approval layers sit between brief and sign off. Not image count on its own.
Do you deliver the 3D source files?
Delivery is finished images and video by default. Handover of scene files or a reusable product asset is possible when it is agreed at the start, because a build intended for reuse is structured differently from one built for a single campaign.
